Shongile Myeza

Intern

Shongile Myeza is a Master’s candidate in Social and Psychological Research at the University of the Witwatersrand. Her work explores how social identities and senses of belonging are negotiated in urban “third spaces” – from churches and sports teams to migrant neighbourhoods in post‑apartheid South Africa.

As a research intern at the African Centre for Migration & Society, she works across the Xenowatch, Gauteng City-Region Observatory (GCRO) Quality of Life Survey, and Atlas of Uncertainty projects, focusing on how migration and urban change shape everyday experiences of safety, mobility, and home in African cities.

For Xenowatch, she helps track and analyse crowdsourced data on xenophobic violence. For the Quality of Life Survey, she supports data intake, cleaning, documentation and analyses on migration and urban wellbeing. For the Atlas project, she contributes to manuscript development on African urban futures and supports project leaders.
