Lorena Núñez, PhD., Post-Doctoral Fellow: Migration and Health Initiatives
Lorena Núñez is a social anthropologist with extensive experience in the fields of gender and development as well as of migration and health. Her PhD research was on social exclusion and its impact on mental and reproductive health among international migrant workers in Chile, and was conducted at the University of Leiden in The Netherlands. Joanna Vearey, Research Associate
Jo Vearey has been with the FMSP since 2007. She is a Doctoral Research Fellow in the Health and Migration Initiative, undertaking a PhD through the School of Public Health at Wits. Her PhD research is investigating the persistent urban health challenges of migration and informal settlements in the context of HIV, through which she is working towards a framework to guide appropriate local level developmental responses. Aurelia Kazadi Wa Kabwe-Segatti, Research Fellow
Aurelia a research fellow from the French Institute of Research for Development working with the FMSP at the University of the Witwatersrand. Her works is on national and regional policy making as well as public administration and local governance of migration. She holds an MA in African Studies and a PhD in Political Science. She is the former director of the French Institute of South Africa’s research centre. She co-edited Migration in post-apartheid South Africa: Challenges and questions to policy makers (IFD Report) with Loren Landau. She has joined the FMSP for a two-year project. Veronique Gindrey, Statistical Engineer
Gindrey is the statistics resource person for the Migration and Transit Research Programme (MITRANS) Southern African collaborating with the FMSP and the French Institute of South Africa (IFAS). She analyses new forms of mobility in Southern Africa using the population censuses or surveys conducted in the region: the African City Survey conducted in Johannesburg (2006), Lubumbashi, Maputo and Nairobi by FMSP and partners. Christine Ludl, Post-Doctoral Fellow
Christine has a PhD in political sociology from Freie Universität Berlin and at Sciences Po Paris. She joined FMSP in 2008. Her post-doctoral project explores the concrete and imaginary dimensions of transit of West African migrants in South Africa, focusing on the relations between culture and politics, the notion of representations and the imagination, on West African migrations mainly to France and South Africa, and on the use of qualitative methods in the social sciences. Tesfalem T. Araia, Researcher: Migrant Rights Monitoring Programme Tesfalem joined FMSP in 2007.
