Tamara Last

Tamara Last joined ACMS in January 2019 as a postdoctoral fellow. Her research investigates the role of migration law in the regulation of difference in Africa. Her interests include mobility privilege, international migration infrastructure, the racialisation of migration policy, and migration as adaptation to social/political/environmental change.

She completed her PhD at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam in 2018 on Deaths Along Southern EU Borders, which explored the reliability of border death data, the issue of non-identification of deceased bodies found along the southern borders of EU Member States, and the relationship between border deaths and EU migration and border policies. During her PhD, Tamara compiled the Deaths at the Borders Database, the first open source collection of official death records of border deaths.
